Emory for Art History?

Is Emory a good university for Art History? What is the department like? Would you recommend Emory, in general? I liked the campus, and I love Atlanta, so I would love for this to be a great fit.

Emory excels in the humanities, particularly with history. From what I know, art history is quite strong here, especially because of the on campus Michael C Carlos Museum which offers plenty of opportunities for art history majors to move beyond the classroom.

Do you like Emory? Does it have a ‘big college’ feel, or a ‘small college’ feel?

Emory’s art history is not the strong relative to the art history department in Princeton and Smith. Emory is a school that is frankly very focused on pre-med and pre-business on the undergrad level.
The art history department in Emory has amazing faculties and is more classics/ancient art focused. We do, however, have a new faculty for modern and contemporary who was a student of Michael Fried, an extremely influential art critic.
Emory is a wonderful school, it’s mid-sized and the people are friendly. I would definitely recommend Emory on a general level. However, if you want to receive a prestigious art history education, Emory might not be the best place to be. However, most students change their major after their first year anyways so I wouldn’t based it on art history unless you are really sure about the major.

Quite of few of my friends are art history, and they love it! It does seem to be more classic oriented, but there is more variation in the upper-level classes and they are constantly adding new courses. We have a museum on campus which is a great opportunity.
As for Emory in general, I LOVE it. It’s definitely mid-sized, with elements of both small and larger schools. Like a small small, we have a great student-teacher ratio and foster a nice community. But as a research institution, we also boast tons of opportunities, clubs, and a large number of course offerings. It’s small enough that it feels “homey” but big enough that you don’t stay with the exact same people your entire time.
Atlanta has tons of art opportunities as well. A few times a semester Emory does shuttles to the High Museum for college night with all the Atlanta college students. This past one, which we get reduced admission to, was featuring Diego and Frida and was so much fun!! Coming next is the Girl with the Pearl Tattoo.
