Hi!
I have been admitted to Emory’s oxford campus and waitlisted Atlanta. I’m a us passport holder but raised entirely overseas. I just wanted to understand what does premed look like- specifically a bio major look like at oxford in comparison to Atlanta. Do you have fewer opportunities, are important opportunities less accessible. From what I can tell oxford offers fewer bio courses, and Atlanta offers a wider variety. Do oxford kids have a disadvantage?
you won’t be at a disadvantage. there are pre-med kids at Oxford and they do fine. you will have a lot of individual attention and good advising with less competition those 1st 2 years. the early science classes are probably pretty standard anyway- and when you get into higher level classes you will be at the ATL campus anyway. I wouldn’t stress over this, especially since the ATL campus isn’t even an option for you right now.
I’m sure, as @billythegoldfish notes, it’ll be great but call and talk to an advisor - and ask. You can call at @oxford or Emory - both will have experience,
The bigger issue is spending two years at a small school, that’s about 30 or 40 miles East of Atlanta, just past the small city of Conyers.
Would you excel in that environment?

What about in the extracurriculars aspect? Given where oxford is located? I do have other options which is why I’m asking
Like what?
obviously Oxford is small and located in a small town. there won’t be as many choices of major or as many activities and clubs, but most of the popular ones will be there, and likely easier to get involved in with less competition for them. and the surrounding town won’t have tons of options for things to do like Atlanta would.
Oxford is a small tight knit community and a LAC, in a lovely bucolic setting. whether that is good for you or not is a personal decision. it’s only 2 years, then off to the ATL campus.
@cinnamon1212 may have additional input as her son attended.
The kids I know who did Oxford > Emory thought it was the best of all worlds, starting in a rural LAC and finishing in an urban neighborhood mid size uni. You should have no concerns about the curriculum or academics at Oxford.
Congratulations on having excellent choices!
My son, who was at Oxford, but has since graduated, has several friends from the Oxford campus who are now in medical school. So it doesn’t hinder premed students (of course it doesn’t! Why would Emory want that??).
I have heard that the Oxford classes are harder, but that is totally hearsay.
Be aware that the Oxford campus is tiny, quiet, and in walking distance of pretty much nothing. My son really loved his time there, but it is not for everyone.
