<p>Hey ! My name is Nadia and I am interested in the Emory Scholar program. This quote from the website kind of threw me off:</p>

A student may apply to Emory as an Emory Scholar nominee and as an Early Decision candidate, but if attendance at Emory is contingent upon receiving a merit scholarship, do not apply as an Early Decision candidate. Emory Scholar selections do not occur until early April, and Early Decision applicants have to pay their binding deposits in January or February.

<p>So if you need to be an Emory Scholar to attend this university, this agreement is basically binding until decisions come out? Because I don’t want to pay a binding deposit if I am not able to afford this institution. "(</p>

<p>If you apply ED and get accepted it is a binding decision. This requires you to attend whether you become one of the Emory Scholars or not. They are asking you to apply RD if you need to be a Emory Scholar to attend.</p>

<p>Well unless you are 100% sure (which is practically impossible considering the competition from applicants and expectations from admission officers) that you will get into the Emory Scholars program (if you have like 3.9+ UW gpa and around 2350 SAT scores then you’d have a good chance), don’t apply early decision… since that’s a binding application. If you think you may not be able to afford Emory, why not look into Oxford? It’s a little cheaper and getting into scholars there is a tad bit easier (but then again back to my original point, not worth risking your binding application).</p>
