This is probably too salty, but kind of makes you wonder if just four years later they wouldn’t have apologized for this…

Sad all are caving - but the cost not to may be too great.

I wonder, if we ever get a Democratic president in the next 4-12 years, if all this reverses course although a lot of this is likely too much to go back from.

They’re not all exactly caving. Some are continuing to do the same thing as values they believe in but not calling it “DEI” anymore. At first glance this does not seem to be the case here, but I’m not sure what they mean by “reimagining programs”.

I understand all too well the significance of this change and the questions it will generate in the minds of many. For me, the core issue is one of values. The Emory I believe in is committed to every person having an equal place, voice, and chance to succeed. We demonstrate this every day through how we lead, hire, mentor, and serve. Closing offices or reimagining lawful programs is not, after all, the same as ending our unwavering commitment to fairness, belonging, and opportunity for all, values that are part of Emory’s DNA.”

Which might have the worst of all worlds effect if those who look favorably on DEI think that means that the organization is unwelcoming, while those who oppose DEI think that the organization is still doing the DEI that they oppose.

Which is also why succumbing to this pressure is a sucker’s game. All it does is make you look weak.
