Emory will phase out the journalism program, department of visual arts, division of educational studies and department of physical education. Students enrolled in these programs will be able to complete their degrees and tenured faculty will move to other departments.
The university will suspend admissions to Spanish and economics graduate programs so leaders there can redefine the missions, Forman said. Emory also will suspend admissions to the Institute for Liberal Arts so it can be restructured.

<p>In the Dean’s letter about the changes, he also reports that Emory hired 27 new professors this past year. For the 27 searches, Emory’s first choice candidate accepted the job offer 23 times. This is an amazing statistic in terms of academic leaders’ confidence in Emory and its leadership. I believe that Emory is trying to hire 100 new faculty (not replacement faculty for retiring teachers) without increasing class size. This shows a lot of commitment to the college and to good teaching (student-faculty ratio).</p>

<p>No. The Emory Wheel is an independent student newspaper. Besides, our journalism program (only offered as a joint major), was never that large to begin with.</p>
