Emory University vs University of Virginia

Hi,

I’ve been accepted to both Emory College and the University of Virginia.
Can anyone enlighten me about the pluses and minuses of both?
Any and all information would be appreciated! Anything from academics to sports to the culture and traditions of the schools.

Not totally sure what I want to major in yet but I am probably going to go down the pre-med path.

Thanks!

I am in the situation as you!

Look a the majors they offer, check their extracurriculars, find students from each school and talk to them, consider weather and location (youre gonna be living there for 4 years after all), look at the size of the student body and the average class, and most importantly consider cost of attendance.

If current students/alumni could also give their input about their experiences at their respective school, that’d be great too! Thanks again

what were your grades Im trying to get into UVA but my grades aren’t that good so I may have to go to community college first

Emory is a D III school and does not have football if sports are important to you (but they do well in many small sports). UVA obviously is part of a large D1 conference with football and basketball, etc. Emory is significantly smaller and in suburb right on the edge of Atlanta (it’s a beautiful campus – I’ve never actually been to UVA, but I assume it has the same type of college-town vibe as Chapel Hill or UGA – so they’re different, but probably both very nice). It’s got a liberal artsy feel and emphasis (but not that small) and premeds love it because of Emory hospital and the CDC (which is maybe a mile or two from campus). Coke essentially funds the business school, which is very nice. I would expect that the career services office is probably better there (if for no other reasons, private school money, there are fewer students to serve, and lots of opportunities in Atlanta).

Very different feels - UVA is 2/3 from Virginia, roughly 1/3 northern virgina and 1/3 the rest. Charlottesville is in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains and a gorgeous campus. Emory is not far from downtown Atlanta and given its size has a sizable Korean population.
