Empathy

How can you make people understand that the lack of privacy can make you sick? That you aren’t actually faking sickness?

The best way to communicate a thought is always directly and without drama. Telling someone how you feel then reiterating it if it doesn’t get through is the way to go. Sounds like there is something else here by the two sentences you wrote. Maybe the person can’t get the message because it isn’t being conveyed simply and directly?

Your questions have nothing to do with your title. If your job (parent café here) doesn’t give you the privacy you feel you need to figure out what does. Perhaps you and the workplace are not a good fit- one size does not fit all. Am assuming no laws are being broken- if they are then it is definitely not a place you want to be. Or someone higher in the hierarchy needs to be informed and deal with it.

You need to give more details to get any kind of helpful answer.

The question does connect to the title. OP is asking people to understand their feelings.

It is so vague, though. What sort of privacy? What sort of sickness? If my kids say it makes them ill if they have to show me their college grades before I’ll pay for another semester, then too bad for them. If someone throws up if they have to undress in the locker room, that is a different kind of issue. If others quizzing on questions of sexual identity triggers an anxiety attack, yet another kind. But is the poster being reasonable? Or are they not, and maybe would benefit from a visit to a physician or therapist? Who knows?

@eocc2018 Lack of privacy is very stressful especially if you are a more introverted person. If you are living in a dorm situation with a room mate it can be super tough, especially when the world around you is saying this is the best time of your life.

You are not alone in feeling this way. See if books like Quiet can help validate your feelings and provide ideas for how to move forward.

You can’t make people understand anything. We can’t force change on other people at all–the best we can hope is to be good examples or horrible warnings.
