Hi, just wondering, beside UCLA, where else(Preferably close to campus) can I work as an EMT?

Well, there are what seems like a million and a half IFT companies in Los Angeles. On the other hand there are only a handful of companies with 911 contracts because LAFD handles EMS in Los Angeles city proper, so the only private companies that respond to 911 calls are in the independant cities with their own FDs like Santa Monica or the unincorporated areas that use LACoFD.

Gerber, Schaffer, Westmed, and McKormick are the companies with 911 contracts in LA (last I checked, but I’ve been out of the LA EMS world for a while). However, all these companies basically play second fiddle to the Fire Department and act as their taxi. Yes, you’ll get to respond to 911 stuff, but you are basically never first on scene, and all you do is drive to the hospital while the firefighter/paramedics ride in your rig and do all the patient care.

Basically, welcome to LA, where EMTs are a dime a million and where EMS as a whole is not very progressive.

Have you looked into applying to the campus EMS program?

Yeah, i was thinking about that but then it is very competitive. that is why I was trying to see if there is another way to get a job as an EMT.
