one of my school’s financial aid application requires “Final year-end paycheck stubs for 2007” from my parents.

i’m unsure what that is, first of all, but i don’t think my parents have it because the only thing they have are the monthly paycheck stubs. i e-mailed the school’s fin aid. office and they said that I have to send them, but i don’t think i can get it from my parents’ employers. my parents work in restaurants so to even ask the employers is a really big hassle and if they say yes, it would take a long time. it took me forever just to get the w2s.

what should i do? how should i explain it to them? i was just thinking of making copies of some of my parents’ monthly paycheck stubs, esp. cause application was due mid-feb.

Any normal business shows a running total all year long, it’s the way it’s done, unless you have a very small business owner essentially writing checks by hand- in that case I would call the school and explain and submit the W2

So, send the last stub from December, or the last one you can get your hands on from the year. Yes, if you work for a small business, it’s possible they aren’t putting year-to-date (YTD) totals on the checks – some places may just show the hours and hourly rate.

And every step of the way, be in touch with the Financial Aid office. It’s much easier and you’re liable to get better support and understanding if you tell them up front about the problems or questions, instead of not sending things in and then after the fact saying, “I couldn’t get those.” Most financial aid offices will work with you, but you need to be proactive and let them know what’s up early.
