What is with UA sending me mail almost every single day? Sometimes several things each day! They send far more than any other colleges that I have applied to and the majority of it is meaningless junk. Seriously, it is really bothering me that they are wasting resources and money and this stupid stuff. It is really turning me off. Do they send this much stuff to everybody? If so then they are an environmentalists nightmare.

How good of a student are you? NMF?

Haha…nope! They keep sending oversized postcards that really don’t say anything at all and serve no purpose. They have got to be spending a fortune on this! Wouldn’t it be great if they stopped with the over marketing and instead used that money on academics? I know they are trying to grow the student population but this is insane. I wish there was a way I could remove myself from their mailing list and have them put that savings towards my tuition. Auburn only seems to send essential stuff, FSU markets themselves but not nearly as much as UA. I’m just very environmentally aware so this is really, really bothering me…

i got the same thing for the past couple of years. it stops when you send your enrollment…or at least it did for me…if its that big of a problem then remove yourself from the mailing list…

yeah they send me tons of crap and I have never ever ever expressed any interest.
alabama as a state doesn’t seem to care about the environment very much anyway…that’s why i’m getting out of here!

It’s all part of the master plan.

Witt is trying to pimp out the school to any and every high school junior in the United States who can read.

yup and then once our applications for admission are very high, he’ll start being cutthroat and only accepting a small percentage. This helps increase rankings.

It’s exactly the same thing Wash U did and now everybody’s calling them on it. It’ll happen to UA, too, if we’re not too careful.

hmm…have ya’ll seen NYU’s literature? talk about a waste of paper. don’t mess with Bama. it’s actually a really great school. instead of complaining, why don’t you stop being so lazy, take action, and just ask them to remove you from their mailing list?

Finally a voice of reason showing some maturity.

…sja mad

how about because they won’t do that. colleges are impossible to get in touch with on this stuff. do you know how many calls and emails they get a day? they aren’t going to pay attention to some whiny kid complaining about mail.

Seriously? If you send in an application then it is impossible to stop the flood! I received 3 pieces in the mail just this week, including a CD, and none of these marketing materials really told me anything about the university! None of the other schools I applied to do this, I would be drowning in junk mail if they did. UA just needs to show some restraint.

UA occasionally will send me things as an alumnus via snail mail, but most communiques I get from the Alumni Association and UA are through email. It’s nothing that rivals what I would get years ago when I was a HS junior/senior.

Alabama may overdo it, but aren’t the only ones. WashU was one from my day that comes to mind. And guess what: it worked. I very nearly applied there without any real reason for wanting to go.
