Engg at Yale College or SEAS?

Hi,

I’m confused: Yale College has a mech engg major, as does the School of Engg and Applied Sciences (SEAS).

What’s the difference? Is there any? If I apply to SEAS, will I be able to get a liberal education? Which engg program is better?

Thanks :)

SEAS is a professional school.

what does that mean exactly? could you elaborate on the difference between “a degree in mech engg” and “a BS degree with a major in mech engg”?

There is only one undergrad engineering program. All undergrads apply to Yale College (not SEAS), regardless of major: [Undergraduate Study | Yale School of Engineering & Applied Science](http://www.seas.yale.edu/study-undergraduate.php). Once you’re accepted, you major in engineering in the same way someone else might major in French, i.e. you have certain distribution requirements outside of your major, and can take a variety of electives in any dept. you wish.
