Engineer?

GPA / Scores
So, I have a 3.3 (not good) but have other excellent things, like a total of 12 AP classes + 8 college classes by the time I graduate and a 33 ACT / 2110 SAT (Math 780 / Reading 740 / Writing 590 (620 superscored)).

ECs
I’ve done pretty well in robotics (2nd place international, wrote my essay on this) and listed a total of 10 EC’s (including additional info) on the common app. In total, I’ve done 600+ hours of community service since the beginning of ninth grade.

Where I’ve applied:
I’ve already applied to a lot of schools, and have heard back from

 • Case Western (acceptance)
 • Georgia Institute of Technology (acceptance)
 • Safeties (I don’t care about these anymore)

I’ve applied to (but haven’t heard back from)

 • RPI
 • UW (in state)
 • JHU
 • CMU
 • Reed (was considering 3/2 engineering)

And am filling out apps for

 • BU
 • HMC
 • Rice

Considering that I will be completely done with applications by Monday, I have two weeks of not writing college apps.

This is unacceptable, because I’m going to regret not applying to as many schools as I possibly could.

What are schools that you think I should apply to ?

 • Must be somewhat reasonable (MIT, Stanford, etc, are probably way too reachy)
 • Must be on par or better than GaTech / Case
 • Must be something I haven’t already applied to.
 • I prefer CommonApp schools

It looks like you’ve applied to a good, broad selection of schools. The only additional ones I can come up with are UMich or Purdue.

Congratulations on Case and GaTech.

You want on par or better than GaTech. GaTech is world class in almost everything.

Would you really ever consider BU over Case or GaTech for engineering? Maybe, just maybe add Northeastern if you want to do more co-op or for some reason really want a Boston option.

But you’ve made the majors if you are ready to perform at that level.

If you really want to keep working, I’d finish Harvey Mudd and Rice, punt on BU and enjoy the holidays. You are so done!

Again, congrats.

You say “UW (in state).” If you mean Wisconsin, you might also consider University of Minnesota since Wisc has tuition reciprocity with Minnesota (meaning you would pay there the higher of Wisc in-state tuition or Minnesota’s in-state tuition). Another to consider is Rose-Hulman in Ind. Purdue is another consideration because of potential of getting merit aid with your test scores.

Congrats on your acceptances. :)

Is money an issue or can you pay full-freight (I don’t think GT can meet need of OOS students)?

But, if money is no problem, then I’d say your list is done. :)

If you have the time, money AND strong SAT II scores (in math and the “hard” sciences), go ahead and take a shot at your reaches. That way, you’ll have no regrets.

Good luck and congratulations!

IMHO, Case Western and Georgia Tech are very good (and underrated) engineering schools.
