Engineering Admission Data for the Incoming Class Starting Fall’25

“Purdue University received nearly 35,000 applications to its undergraduate Engineering program, marking a 20% jump from last year.”

“The admission rate for first-year students for Fall 2025 was approximately 34%.”

Wish they would provide a breakdown of engineering admission rates for in-state and OOS applicants. Nevertheless, it’s interesting that the engineering admission rate dropped from 46.1% in Fall 2024 (Purdue University Class Profile - Admissions and Statistics) to approximately 34% in Fall 2025. That’s a pretty significant drop.

The data digest can be sorted for OOS (non resident). It’s just not up yet for '25: https://www.purdue.edu/datadigest/

Historically the OOS rate has been comparable to the instate acceptance rate.

What I do think is confusing is there always seems to be a discrepancy between the COE and data digest reporting in terms of acceptance rate. I don’t know for certain but I think COE may not be including their direct admits from the their polytechnic HS and Ivy Tech in their stats. IMO, that makes sense since that doesn’t apply to most applicants and would artificially increase the acceptance rate. But, it would also increase the acceptance rate for instate…

I was also interested to see that the test score medians went down slightly. Makes sense since it’s now test mandatory again.

Lots of moving pieces!

Maybe I’m reading this wrong, but it looks like in-state admits was about 20 percentage points higher than for OOS for 2024. Clearly the 46% acceptance rate for 2024 was a mistake as the COE and the university were over enrolled. I’m curious what the enrollment will look like for 2025. My son is starting this fall. Purdue is not for the faint of heart.

I hope your son has a great experience at Purdue! My D loved every minute!

Thanks! I appreciate the helpful information that you have provided on CC. He’s actually there now. He opted to do Early Start to ease with the transition. He’s having a great summer, which hopefully continues through the fall.
