I have over 600 hours of community service and I am applying to CALS for Biological Engineering…PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!! This is my top (and favorite school) and I want to know if I Tell me if I can get in…Please

Please tell me my chance of getting in and if I can get a full ride? HELP ME OUT!!!

Not a full ride, but you definitely have a shot at a scholarship.

I had roughly a 3.8, 33, 2110 SAT, 2200 SATII, lots of ECs, and BU gave me $30,000 per year for biomedical engineering.

Chance me for BU Trustee/ BME Major? I’m REALLY anxious/need this scholarship

SAT 1: 2300
SAT 2: Math II 790, Chemistry 730
GPA: 4.5 weighted

Leadership positions in clubs (mainly Key Club and Model United Nations), member of 6 honor societies at school, varsity tennis team

All 5’s on the following: AP World History, AP Computer Science A, AP Calculus BS, AP US History, AP English Language

Currently enrolled in: AP Statistics, AP Spanish Language, AP Physics C, AP Chemistry, AP US Government and Politics, AP English Literature

^Where did you stand in your class, rank? Are you a Val? How strong was your principal’s letter in support of you? Generally, while BU suggests applicants in the top 10% of their class should apply, I would say that this type of scholly goes to those in the top 1%, National Merit Finalist, etc. Less than that would require a lot of hooks, a few features that really set you apart from other applicants, and a huge letter from your principal. Do you know your principal well? Did you get your Trustee app in by the Dec. 1 date. BU is big on ruling people out with deadlines. Good luck! Mr. VC

idkididk, Is that $30K all grant / scholly, or do you have some loans mixed in with work study? Perhaps you got one of those $20K renewables and a mix of self-help? On their BU’s financial aid web-site scenarios they would suggest you to receive more, depending on what your family assets are. Well done! Mr. VC

Up to #1 kingorange9 - I get it, you try to be a hard working student, you are in 6 different clubs and an officer in 5 of them. What’s your FAFSA EFC? You can repeat the number if you wish. If you are accepted, expect BU to drain whatever federal grant money & loan (sub and unsub) that you qualify for before they start giving you university funds. Is BU your number one choice? Did you apply ED and get deferred? BU’s average net cost for a year of college for those who receive financial aid is $28.5K, that’s right from the FAFSA report that you get once you file, and then wait for your SAR up to 48 hours later. Northeastern’s is higher, around $34K. Princeton’s is lower, around $17.5 K. BU does not meet 100% of student need, and they go out of their way to reiterate it on the financial aid website. And even give scenarios with percent chances based on family resources, your rank, your GPA and test scores. BU does not have a big endowment for a school of its size, and as a result depends just as much on full-pay tuitions. So if you have some rich friends, make sure that they enroll, it could be better for you! If you have a high rank, high GPA and your family has income < 100K, I’d say you have a chance for some mix of self-help (loans/work-study) and scholarship money university grant. Got another sibling in school? That would mean more $$$ help. The less your family can afford, the higher your combined award will likely be. For you it will come down to what your family can afford, via verification thru FAFSA and CSS Profile. IF YOU ARE A WOMAN OF SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING, WITH THE BACKGROUND THAT YOU PRESENT, I WOULD SAY THAT YOUR CHANCES OF GETTING SOME SCHOLARSHIP MONEY ARE HIGHER. This is just a best guess estimate, but it is from someone who has several rounds of apps that have gone to 881 Comm. Ave., 5th Floor. Good luck! Mr. VC

Go to the #1 BU thread, the RD thread, posts #140 & 142 respectively regarding a couple of these notices.

Congrats to those receiving the acceptance and award!

Cheers!
