Engineering Letter question

Hey,
i recently got a letter from the UCLA engineering school and said they didnt put me in bioengineering but they put me into Electrical Engineering.

i got something like :

On behalf of HSSEAS, it gives me great pleasure to inform you that the Faculty of HHSEAS has recommended your admission. In the near future, more information about your acceptance will be contained in a formal letter of admission from the Office of Undergraduate Admission and Relations with Schools (UARS)."

does this mean i got accepted for Electrical Engineering instead of Bio engineering?
the letter came with a map for the open house
please help thx

…wait, where does it say that you got accepted into EE instead of BioE?

I believe they sent out correction letters a couple days ago, or an email about this.

No way would they bump up your request in an impacted field. :)

You should get an official “my bad” follow-up letter soon.

um it says here “The bioengineering major is heavily subscribed and we are unable at this time, to admit you to that major. However, on behalf of HSSEAS, it gives me great pleasure to inform you that the faculty of HSSEAS has recommended your admission to the major of Electrical Engineering of the Electrical Engineering Department, which offers a strong Biomedical Engineering option.”

now keep in mind, i didnt apply for EECS which is the impacted one i believe

its just normal EE. does that change things?

need some help please. Bump

You didn’t get place in EECS. In fact, there is no EECS at UCLA, but there is straight EE, EE-Biomedical, EE-Computer.

The HSSEAS recommended you take the EE-Biomedical option. If you want to deal with EE courses stuck with the Life Science series, go for it.

However, most EE-Biomedical students favor more of the physics side than biomedical.

thx for the response boelter but does this mean im rejected or in? because flopsy up there didnt really give me that great of an answer without clarifying.

so if i got this does it mean in or not in thats basically all i really would like to know thx

Flopsy didn’t give a clear answer because half of it is common sense. If you read the quotes again from the letter, you would understand. (reading comprehension)

You are admitted (likely admitted) to be admitted into the HSSEAS, not under your preferred Biomedical Engineer, but into Electrical Engineering. Read the other threads related to your likeliness of admission.

You declare your option under EE, so no are not strictly put into straight EE.

Ok thanks for the clarification boelter i appreciate it. I just didnt understand what flopsy meant about a “my bad” follow up letter, i thought he meant this letter was a mistake or something. But thank you for the clarification

word to BoelterHall. how did you get in ucla when your reading comprehension is so poor? jk… no really

lol all that matters is that i most likely got in

Some people received a correction letter because the printed letters showed the wrong major that they were actually accepted into.

Flopsy pointed out this incident that could have involved you.

Oddly, your major was full and they switched you into a more ‘impacted major’ within the HSSEAS.

Count your blessings and hope you can keep up with EE.

BoelterHall thank you very much for you help. I appreciate it and i plan to keep up with EE ive taken most of the math requirements for it anyways lol. again, thank you

My post was a reference to the fact that others received a likely letter with a mistyped major in their letter a few days ago (e.g. Aerospace Engineering -> Electrical Engineering). Apparently, this is not the case, and UCLA may actually have reassigned your major deliberately. I honestly had no idea that UCLA Bioengineering was this impacted for Fall 2007. This is turning out to be a bloodbath.

oh ok thanks for the clarification flopsy

You have taken and received units for Differential Equations already? Beware, there are some weeder courses early on in EE.

yeah i went to community college classes + highschool but most likely ill be taking those classes again. Do you feel it would be more helpful to retake the classes(to get a better grasp or work load etc)

If at this point, you have taken Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations and mastered all the concepts, then …

You can retake some from the grade if you are very confident you mastered those math courses.

Most likely, community college math courses are not thorough enough …

But if you want to get ahead and possibly get part of the curriculum done, then skip all the math.

Now regarding the letter, when it says “more information about your acceptance”, is the word acceptance being used as a noun? cuz other wise it can mean you can still get rejected right? i read another thread where Gpine called but has anyone else verified this?
