engineering major business internship/job

Is it possible for engineering majors to get accepted to business internship and eventually get a business related job? When I talking to my counselor she told me about such stories. I thought it was strange for engineering students who have not taken a single business course to get a job related to business.

any response would be grateful.

thanks

It is absolutely possible and common. Are you a high school student looking into what programs to apply to, or are you a college student looking into career opportunities?

I’m a junior majoring in mechanical engineering, just having hard to finding internships now or hesistating from applying alot due to having no experience what so ever( my gpa has been going down to the point of less than 3.0 due to my depression which I talked to the counsellor about)

Bring the GPA up as much as possible. Engineers DO get hired at business firms (A friend of mine majored in Chemical Engineering and is starting at BCG next may), but high academic achievement is absolutely necessary. You need to stand out from all the other business majors applying for the position, and demonstrate a knack for quick learning, since the company will have to bring you up to speed due to lack of coursework in the area.

Don’t worry about not being able to find internships yet. Companies don’t do recruitment for interns until the spring, for the most part. You’ll start seeing job opportunities on your school’s career services website over winter break, and as soon as you come back to second semester, you will start seeing information sessions. That’s where your efforts will pay off.
