Engineering schools- chances of acceptance...

Hey everyone! I’m a junior in highschool and don’t know how college is going to go… As of right now I love math and science and am strongly considering engineering as my major. I have a 4.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale because of the honors classes I take. I am on student council and hopefully will be a part of NHS. I play soccer for my highschool and am participating in the foriegn exchange program this coming summer in Argentina. I want to go to a really good school for engineering (if that is what I go into) and have heard Berkely, Cornell, and MIT are some of the best. What are my chances of getting into these schools with these credentials? If I were apply to Princeton would I have a good chance? Do you recomend any other really good schools that you think I could get into?
p.s. I have not taken my ACTs yet but my plan test said I should be in the 29-33 range

you’ll probably have better luck getting answers to your questions in the What are My Chances forum…

As one who was in your shoes (i.e. an aspiring engineer), I would say it depends on several factors. With engineering, admissions committee members look for excellence in science and math. While your credentials are strong, I would want to know what honors or awards have you achieved in math and science? What extracurriculars do you participate in within math and science? What activities in these subjects have you pursued outside school? What are your SATs? What are your SAT IIs in math and the sciences?

Hope this helps.

well I’m just starting my junior year so I have 2 years of high school left. I have not taken my SATs or ACTs yet. I guess I don’t participate really in many extracuriculars in math and science. I got second place in science olympiad regionals, but that was in 7th grade. Our school has a bio club but that is the only science related club I know of. Do you recomend any activities outside of my school that I could get involved with? Do I have to have won a lot of math and science related awards to be accepted at these schools?
Thanks
