My daughter is trying to decide whether to go to orientation ahead of her international date as this program occurs the same time as international orientation.

Can anyone give any information on this program? Was it beneficial or generally a waste of time?

Honest opinion, I think all programs like that are a waste of time. You won’t learn much from one week of one hours sessions. I’ve never actually attended any workshop/programs, but I really don’t think they help at all. I’ve never seen anyone actually benefit much from them.

And you’ve mentioned in another thread you’ll have to arrange hotel stays and such. Seems like a lot of trouble for it. I live an hour’s drive away from USF and I think it’s too much trouble to attend for me already.

Engineering is one of the hardest and most demanding fields of study at USF. New freshmen will get hit with a heavy course load right out of the chute the first semester. If your daughter can attend, she should. The Engineering Smart Start is designed to get you off to a fast start and springboard you toward success in the USF Engineering program. If you’re going to do something, you might as well get in it up to your neck; take advantage of every academic tool you can at USF, including the Engineering Smart Start program. The USF Engineering College wants your daughter to succeed at USF, that’s why they offer the Smart Start program for engineering students.
