Are there any summer internships available for the graduating high school senior who has been admitted to engineering and who would otherwise have a summer job weed-whacking and replacing playground wood chips? Getting started in an engineering-related job would be more beneficial both from an intellectual standpoint and a career standpoint. Could the applicant, once he/she accepts expect help prior to matriculation from a university’s career services center?

Although the unskilled labor job is helpful in terms of providing impetus to pursue that college degree, it’s otherwise quite unhelpful.

Even if he was just doing the coffee run, or working in the mail room, he’d learn a lot more working in an environment where he might be employed at after receiving his degree.
