Engineering summer programs?

Looking for recommendations on best summer engineering programs that would add to a prospective engineer’s (high school 2027) activities? Trying to focus on competitive or prestigious programs versus pay to attend programs that don’t add value. Thanks!

What state do you live in?

Sent you a PM - happy to go to other states. Not a minority, so can’t apply to programs specifically for underrepresented, unless it is just strongly encouraged.

Michigan Tech’s Summer Youth Program has a lot of choices. Course Catalog | Summer Youth Programs | Michigan Tech

Thanks!

My S23 electrical engineer participated in Cal Poly SLO’s EPIC (Engineering Possibilities in College) - he enjoyed it although it was online that year (due to COVID). He also was going to attend Purdue’s STEP (Seminar for Top Engineering Prospects) but Purdue canceled the residential portion and made it a day program that year (also due to COVID) and that wasn’t practical for us. Others you might check out include MIT’s MITES program and (if you’re a CA resident) the COSMOS program, both of which are much more competitive for admission.

Thanks! He has applied to Epic!

Purdue’s STEP program is great, and also competitive entry, but it’s only for rising HS seniors.

Rose Hulman has Operation Catapult. I believe they take rising juniors in that program in addition to rising seniors.

Thanks!

I’m familiar with the two from @momofboiler1 and my son attended STEP and it validated his decision he was first turned down until an improved SAT so definitely competitive. You can find others on the internet like these below.

D25 did the free, NSF-funded GenCyber (many options across the country) and one of the spring Lincoln Labs/Beaverworks programs (via MIT). They loved, loved, loved the Beaverworks program especially. You could also look at the residential summer programs there, including radar and cybersecurity camps. Tons of options via Beaverworks & MIT.

Would your kiddo also like math camps? Many options. The free UChicago program comes to mind. I think they even pay for your transportation.
