Engineering?

How is the biomedical engineering program at bucknell? What med schools do bucknell graduates get accepted to? Is it hard to get into the engineering program?

anyone???

bumppppppp

I know that the bimedical engineering program is pretty new and that they only let a small number of people in intending on majoring in biomedical engineering… I know bucknell has a very good engineering program, but I don’t know much more specifically about biomed…

how about biomed eng. as a minor?

???

i don’t know much about hte program, i’m also interested in that major - supposedly new and coming major. Bucknell has great facilities and a great history of engineering - i’m sure they will continue the tradition with this field. Just with the resources they have in place for engineering majors its bound to be good. May want to check out case western (deadline may have passsed, I have no idea), it’s ranked very highly for biomed.

I was told only 10-15 are admitted Biomed. Really tough to get into that program, it is still small. Check out Case, GA Tech, or other schools that have bigger Biomed programs. As of this date only 29 schools have ABET accredited Biomed programs. Many are awaiting accreditation and I am sure they will receive it in time. Also look at usnews long list of top 25 Biomed programs.

the program is only in its 2nd year - first grads will come out in 2007 - programs are not ABET accredited until 3-4 yrs. after classes start to graduate, but since their other eng. programs are so highly thought of, no reason to think that biomed will be any different.

Their goal is to have approx. 20 students in each class year. They admitted 15 freshmen for class of '07, then accepted a few more at end of that first semester. Probably similar numbers for the second round of admits last fall. Since program is highly structured, would assume the transfers were other BU frosh, or perhaps transfers from other schools with lots of AP credit for flexibility, who had taken a similar track at their first school.

Facilities are really great. The older eng. bldg. has been completely updated in recent years and they opened a new state of the art bldg. in Aug. 2004, which greatly increased their lab spaces.
