Engineering

How does duke handle engineering? Is it as hands off and old fashioned as vanderbilt?

oh, it’s very hands on.

Hm…interesting.

Over the last few years, each department was worked to increase the amount of hands-on experiences students have and also to have more available in the first and second years. The computational methods course I teach has several data acquisition labs to teach the basics of…acquiring data among other things - that course is taken by all students, generally in the first semester. Follow-on courses in the departments (BME 8, CEE 24/25, ECE 27, and EGR 20 for MEs) are geared towards giving students a better overview of the department as well as experience in the lab.

how hard is it? well thats a stupid question, i’m sure its very hard, but how much time do you put into it and what kind of GPA does a middle of the class student usually end up with?

I’ll let students answer the time part - I think when I was an undergrad I spent about 3-4 hours outside of class for each hour of class on average, though there were definite peaks and valleys with that.

For GPA, my experience has been that the median grade tends to be somewhere in the B- to B+ range.
