engineering

So i have no idea what kind of engineering that i want to do. right now i am in Industrial Engineering at Texas A&M. Is this a good field to get into? The program is ranked 8th in the country, so its pretty good. I was also thinking about Petroleum Engineering. A&M has one of the top ranked petroleum engineering programs in the world, but are the job opportunities good for this field?

You seem to be very caught up with rankings. I can tell you right now that most engineering at A&M is ranked in atleast the top 30 USNWR, which will be good enough. You’ll find that once you start looking for jobs, the top companies in your industry will hire from a wide variety of schools. Find something that interests you the most. Read up on what each degree does, maybe talk to some people in that field if possible, and choose by that. Then adjust your likes/dislikes based on your classes in college.

I’m in the same boat. Computer Science is listed as my major now… HA!
Try finding Engineering opportunities (like summer programs) to see what you might be interested in and research your options - what they do, not their rankings at A&M. The difference between ranking #20 and #30 is negligible.

With all the core classes we have to take anyway you won’t really need to choose your major until Spring of 2nd year so you have time to see what kind of classes you like and such.
