Hi all,
Recently I’ve been using the schedule builder in Penn State Lionpath. One class that I’m interested in taking is Eng15, Rhetoric and Composition. However, it says in “prerequisites” that one must have taken Eng004 or have a satisfactory score on the English proficiency examination. First of all, I wasn’t aware there was an English proficiency exam. Is this something specifically for international students? And, secondly, it says on the course description of Eng004 that it is a course designed for students with deficient preparation. This is not me. I’m a bit confused as to how I can qualify for this course. I’m assuming this has nothing to do with it, but I got a 740 on the Literature SAT Subject Test. Any guidance would be helpful. Thanks!
Have you tried contacting the department chair, the instructor, or your faculty advisor about this?
This question would be better asked in the Penn State subforum.
Not yet. I wasn’t quite sure who to contact, specifically.
I’m new to College Confidential, I’m not sure how to control where my posts go.
- OO4 is for students who scored very low on SAT EBRW. Most students in the 480-620( ~~!) band will take one of the different forms of 15.
- there is an ESL version of 15 if you’re interested.
- however if you scored 740 in sat subject lit and 650+ on EBWR you’d take English 30, not 15.
- finally, if you’re in the CLA, you can register your intent to be a Paterno Fellow and register for the Schreyer seminar .
Thank you! I am not an international student, sorry for the confusion.
Then you’d likely take English 030 or the Schreyer seminar.
International students can only register on May 27 I think… call registrar and ask… they will remove the NSO requirement for all international students
