<p>I am considering medical school and one of the requirements is 2 semesters of English (AP credit does not count). I am wondering if I can take the required two classes and then add one more to make that my HASS concentration? However, I am not sure if the ELS (<a href=“http://web.mit.edu/fll/www/languages/ELS.html[/url]”>http://web.mit.edu/fll/www/languages/ELS.html</a>) option is right for me though.</p>
<p>I think you can do this - after all, the premed requirements are something that you do on your own rather than something imposed by MIT to get a degree, so whether you’re taking the classes for fun or for premed requirements shouldn’t matter. Double-check what I just said with someone official, but I would be surprised to hear that I was wrong.</p>
<p>If you’re not sure about ELS, you can take lit classes, or creative writing classes, or scientific writing classes. “English” is a broad category.</p>
<p>Many premed friends of mine concentrated in 21L (literature). I believe writing and literature classes are what is generally meant by the medical school “English” requirement, although the [recommended</a> premed course list](<a href=“http://web.mit.edu/career/www/preprof/reccourses.pdf]recommended”>http://web.mit.edu/career/www/preprof/reccourses.pdf) says that any CI-H course can be used to fulfill the requirement.</p>
