english grammar

from online research i found that the only class w/ english grammar is a basic class before english 3, which seems tedious to take. is that true? anyone know of a class in which i can work on my grammar at ucla? i just need it for my own good. grammar is useful.

just buy kaplan books or wordsmart equiv of grammar. or just get someone to proofread your stuff . if you think eng3 is bad enough… eng2 is just… yea ok blah.

Read this: Elements of Style, by Strunk and White. Good ****, mme would agree if she read it. She probably has.

Seconded! I have Elements of Style the headboard of my bed. Great book! And Eats, Shoots, and Leaves is a great and humorous one about punctuation. Hooray for adhering to the laws of grammar and punctuation in formal writing!

Karen Elizabeth Gordon’s ‘Well-Tempered Sentence’ and ‘Deluxe Intransitive Vampire’ are both fun and memorable, with lots of examples. Strunk & White is actually a bit inconsistent. The folks over at Language Log refer to it as the ‘Horrid Little Book’.

mrMOO, not only have I read it… I OWN it and not only do I OWN it… I have TWO copies of it… one for my left eye and the other for my right. (That’s what she said.)

SaltyBruin12, I highly doubt you could ‘adhere’ to the laws of grammar and punctuation in ‘formal writing’ seeing how well you write ‘formally’ in your posts.

themovies, I highly doubt that you’ve read it much less own it. Highly doubt it. ‘Horrid little book’? How about ‘horrid little poster’?

You forgot about your brown eye! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! <3 :*

speechless

slow clap

1000th post, too.

Welcome to the Senior Member Club.

i lol’ed when i read mme’s post

I laughed…

I have some catching up to do, 185 more?

No honest to God in China, I did buy a second copy since I thought I forgot the first. My mom spanked me and called me “Engrish is bad; useless EngLish major; not learN anyThing!” and so I fell into MIC’s arms and we laughed at the Puppet!

Touchy, touchy, Mme-lin. :D
