Does anyone have any experience with the english department @ Davis? I know they are heavily known for biology but my daughter has applied as an english major (emphasis on creative writing) and she really likes the feel of the school, etc… How hard is it to get in under this major ? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I’m not an English major, but from what I’ve heard, it’s a fairly strong department at Davis. I don’t believe it’s difficult to get into the major.

Though Davis is well known for some of its science programs, it offers a greater diversity of majors than any other UC campus and does a good job of maintaining the academic quality of each of its departments. Furthermore, the English major is offered at virtually every university in the country, and there is probably little variation from university to university. I’m not aware of any national rankings for undergraduate English programs, which implies a similarity from institution to institution.

If your daughter likes the feel of the school, I think that should be her primary factor in deciding where to go.
