My current school runs on a block schedule which = no English teacher this semester. The one school I have specifically asked said to use a humanities teacher, which would be Spanish or Biology, for my recommendation. I’m not sure if other schools will also do this. Even if they do, I have no writing samples. What do people who are in this situation normally do?

I don’t think that biology would be considered a humanities – it is a science.

do you take any classes that require you to write papers? I would say that a history class might be your best bet.

My son was in the same situation; he was told to send in a rec from his foreign language or humanities teacher instead. For the graded writing sample, he used something from the previous year.

Biology may not be a humanities but i was told “A humanities teacher,so biology or spanish.” I have no history class and no class I write papers in.

I think I will be using my foreign language teacher. I’m not sure I have any writing from last year but if needed I will probably have to dig some up.

You have not written a paper of 2 pages (or so) in length for ANY subject either this year or last? Nothing for history or social science? Not even an extra credit report for Math on some influential mathematician? That’s not good.

I would try to find something that you wrote this year. Obviously it’s not fatal to find something from last year. But you’re not doing yourself any favors by reaching back, either.

Didn’t you write a short report on your summer reading? Even if it wasn’t graded or marked up, you can still get it graded or marked up and send it in.

If I were you I’d put on my thinking cap and think about an assignment and I’d enlist your teachers’ support in (a) identifying such an assignment, and (b) getting it marked up/graded for purposes of satisfying the application requirement.

No, no writing(other than notes, etc) is done in any of my current classes, much less 2 pages worth. I don’t have a history class. We aren’t required to do summer reading. Ugh its getting so close to due dates for applications and I had completely forgotten about this

Just ask a humanities teacher if they can give you an essay topic, write an essay, and have them grade it.
