Enough Contacts?

I just wanted to make sure I have made enough contacts with Emory for them to realize that I am really interested in the school. I have:

Attended an off-campus information session

Talked to a current student who went to my high school about her Emory experience

Received two brochures and a letter from admissions

Visited their website (and these forums) several times for information

I am also sending out a request for more information about a couple of the departments that I am interested in tomorrow (I have been busy and, although I have been meaning to for a couple weeks, have just gotten around to filling it out).

Will this be okay? Thanks.

I think you’re fine. I think there’s definitely a difference between not doing any research on the university and applying and reading a brochure or two and applying but anything after that is about the same. The way I see it, you have showed your interest so any extra stuff is just icing on the cake. It won’t dramatically change the outcome either way.

I agree with patriotically that you are fine. However, you did not mention if you have visited the school. If not, I would strongly suggest it, making sure you sign in at the Admissions office. More importantly, the visit will be for you to really see the campus and get a feel for the campus life. A visit will be the most notable expression of interest to the Admissions office but it will not dramatically change the outcome very much. It does help if it is a close call, however.

I visited, talked to a professor, talked to 2 adcoms, talked to 1 alum, talked to 3 students, ordered video, went on website, talked with a friend, talked with GC, received a letter from a department and received a letter from admissions.

I checked those off on my supplement.

Why not send them a letter letting them know how interested you are?

With so much contact, I am pretty sure if your scores are good you will get admitted. Does anyone know if they offer any merit scholarship other than the Emory Scholars??

I personally haven’t visited, talked to a student, etc and got in through the Emory Scholars Program (applied RD). I ordered the DVD but that was after I got my semifinalist for Emory Scholars notification. The only interest I showed was in my essay (which I think was really good).

@rpg1 - I’m a QuestBridge Finalist, so I think they will understand that I haven’t had the money/time to visit. I’m planning to visit the schools that I get accepted to before making my decision though. Thanks!

My essay is pretty good as well. You can’t do that much with creativity when you only have 250 words, but it was pretty well-written and I was specific about what the school had that appealed to me.

Thanks for the responses guys.

^Fallen Angel, I wouldn’t be too strict about the 250 word limit. As long as everything in the essay is on topic and significantly contributes to the essay, I would add it. In fact my essay was about 340 words.

“Emory Scholars” is an umbrella term that covers all the general merit scholarships. There are a few specialized ones outside the umbrella, I believe music and debate.
