Entering National Merit Competition Late

I recently took the PSAT’s in October as a sophomore and think that I did pretty well. I am hoping to go to the University of Washington next year as part of an early entrance program. But my mom will only let me go next year if I can find a scholarship to help offset the price of tuition. Anyways, I was wondering if any of you know if I could write a letter explaining how my circumstances have changed, do you think I would be able to be entered into the competion?

I’m in the same exact situation as you, actually. I’m considering applying for the UW early on too - although one thing we must note - the UW doesn’t care about PSAT scores - it only cares about ACT scores. PSAT scores are really only useful for summer programs.

http://www.washington.edu/cscy;</a> and then go to “SUmmer Academy”; I remember reading there somewhere about those who get good PSAT scores as sophomores: you’ll get the scholarship in the soph year of college. Right now though, I have some HW that needs to be done.

Cool! Thanks for all of the information. I guess I will right them a letter explaining my circumstances. Thanks again!

“Write”. Must correct you since making mistakes like this on an app essay will not be taken lightly. ;)
