Entrance policies for Freshmen

Hello!

I am a college counselor in Brazil and would like to know the following: what is the general policy to enter as a Freshman if a student has taken a couple of courses at another university before? Some of my students graduated from high school in December and while they are waiting for the approval notices they want to start studying at Brazilian universities so as not to waste any time. But I know that some american universities don’t accept students as Freshmen if they have gone to other colleges before.

Is there a way for them to know? And does this change according to university?

Thanks!

Each school’s policy is different. You would need to check the college’s web site and if it’s not clear there send an E-Mail to the admissions office at the school.

You are right to be concerned, this can result in a student becoming a transfer applicant instead of a freshman applicant. Aid is often worse for transfers, too. You need to ask each college, it does vary.
