Environment for non-sports-interested kids

My child has zero interest in sports and doesn’t plan to attend games. I know that UCONN has a great basketball program. Does the campus turn into a big rah-rah rally for sports prior to and on game days? Will a non-sports kid fit in on campus or will they essentially be on the outside looking in?

UConn is a large flagship university. I’m quite sure any student can find others who also aren’t rah rah about sports.

But I will say…I’m really not very interested in sports, but I love UConn women’s basketball. Your student might decide it isn’t so bad to enjoy a sport. But if not…that’s OK too!

They’re concerned that it will be a game night and the whole dorm will go to the game, leaving them to find something else to do alone.

It’s not that easy to get basketball tickets…and Gampel can’t hold everyone on campus plus the season ticket holders. Other games are at the Xl center in downtown Hartford, and many students have no way to get there from Storrs.

It’s easy to get football, but let’s just say, the team isn’t terrific yet. And home games are in Hartford, not in Storrs.

I’m hoping someone who is a current student or parent of one will comment! I am just a CT resident.

My freshman at Syracuse could not possibly care less about sports and is still loving it! There’s definitely a ton of non-sports opportunities at schools with big athletic programs. Good luck!
