Environmental Resources Engineering (ERE)

Hello all,

I was one of those high school students who drove teachers crazy: great potential lacking drive. I could have easily earned an A in each class, taken honors and AP courses, etc. What did I do? I didn’t do homework and breezed through the requirements with about a 3.0 GPA.

The highest math course I have taken is Geometry in which I had a C all year. One cannot expect to do well in any math course without at least minimal studying.

I understand most, if not all, fields of engineering involve very complex math – would it make sense to even attempt majoring in ERE? Here’s the program at the university I am likely attending: [Environmental Resources Engineering • Humboldt State University](http://www.humboldt.edu/humboldt/programs/descriptions/842/)

I will be attending a community college and transferring (if that makes any difference).

I took physics my freshmen year in high school and for the most part, I understood most of the basic trigonometry we did in class, although most of that has been forgotten by now. I believe if I apply myself, nothing is out of reach. I don’t mind a challenge, but struggling is something I want to avoid.

TL;DR: As a previously unmotivated slacker in high school only taking up to geometry, would it be unwise to pursue a degree in Environmental Resources Engineering? Are there any major differences between ERE and Environmental Engineering? If so, how does it affect career choices? How does the ERE program at HSU* compare to others?

Thank you in advance for your time and advice.

You are definitely capable of working in this engineering field. All I can say is: I hope you study hard and become successful.
