How is this department at Brown?

This department is housed in a really cool building called the Urban Environmental Lab. You can read about it here: [Center for Environmental Studies: Urban Environmental Lab](<a href=“Institute at Brown University for Environment and Society - IBES Homepage”>Institute at Brown University for Environment and Society - IBES Homepage).

Unfortunately, this wonderful building is being torn down to make room for the new Brain Building, and it is unclear where the department will be located next.

The intro course, which is required by majors, gets mixed reviews. Once you get through that, my sense is that it is a pretty good department that does some interesting things. Plus, there is a lot of environmental activism on campus.

OK, that’s good to hear. Environmental activism is something that I’m really into at the moment. Thanks!

I was under the impression that the UEL was safe from the construction ambitions currently planned on campus.

I’m basing my statements on this BDH article (http://media.www.browndailyherald.com/media/storage/paper472/news/2008/04/07/CampusNews/No.Easy.Way.To.Move.Uel.Brown.Tells.Community-3307222.shtml</a>)

It’s not 100% doomed, but pretty close.
