<p>The same thing happens to me all the time - the explanation of benefits is sent to my daughter, not me. I have no idea if she gets the initial bill or not. But when it goes to collections, that is the first time I’ve heard of it. Then all the sudden I’m getting nasty-grams in the mail and constant phone calls to pay a medical bill I had no idea about. This is usually 8-9 months after she visited the ER. Unfortunately I have a fairly large co-pay with ER visits, but I’m sure not going to pay it until I get a bill!</p>
