Erin Andrews

Following this story. I really feel sorry for her.

@tom1944, what story? Care to provide a link?

Me too - that was disgusting what happened to her.

It is beyond disgusting.

I had no idea of what was happening until today. Are hotels allowed to give out your room number?

^^^ I thought not. What happened to her clearly has scarred her

I don’t know what was worse, what happened to her, or what ESPN did to her, among other things, they apparently forced her to give an interview about what happened when she really didn’t want to (not to mention given the culture at ESPN at the time, I can only imagine the way she was treated there, ESPN has had a pretty good size number of sexual harassment suits and was cited at least once for maintaining a culture that was hostile towards women). I have heard some cretins making jokes about what happened, as if it was no big deal, until I turned around and asked them how it would feel if it was their daughter that had this happen to them, would they be laughing about it or saying “suck it up, it was no big deal?”.

I know that the hotel company’s lawyer has a job to do, but it sounds like their defense to damages is that she wasn’t really damaged because she didn’t become a basket case professionally or personally.

Wow–A very troubling case and the strategy Marriott is employing is DISGUSTING! I hope she gets a large award plus punitive damages. ICK!

Wow. We’ve had instances where Mr R couldn’t get our room number because we don’t have the same last name.

Disturbing story.

The lawyer knows they don’t have a leg to stand on, so they are trying to mitigate the damages by arguing she really wasn’t hurt. It surprises me that they didn’t try to settle this one, either Erin Andrews refused, wanting the truth out there and/or assuming a jury would be sympathetic, or the corporation really believes this was no big deal and therefore wanted to go to trial. Cases like this usually are settled, the corporation can settle without taking any blame, and can say “we settled this in the interests of allowing Ms. Andrews to move on with her life and to put a troubling episode behind us”, without admitting guilt.

He got her room number through their high tech phone system, not sure exactly how. He did not go up to the front desk and ask for her room number.

Regardless, this is definitely a black eye for Marriott and the longer it drags out and more publicity it gets, the worse the damage to their brand. DUMB for them not to quickly settle with apology. I’m not that fond of hotels but never thought I’d have to worry about someone shooting footage of me while I am alone in my hotel room and then plastering the web with it!

What is also doubly disgusting is the fact that these people watching the video were allegedly “making fun of her and her body.”

This is a slender, beautiful woman they were “making fun of.” Dollars to donuts these jerks would not fare nearly as well in a naked competition. I’m sick of the double standard heard so often these days, and it’s not always verbalized by men.

^^^^^

Absolutley. And while I hate to reduce myself to their level - take a look at the pic of Mr. Peskind. How many women do you think would even give him a second look? And he is (allegedly) passing judgment on Erin Andrews?

She can never, no matter what she does, make this go away.

Can someone explain to me how the hotel might be liable for this? Not asking snarkily; I just don’t understand.

Just a guess but they must have given the stalker her room number or someone who worked in the hotel let him in.

I am putting Marriot on my list of businesses never to frequent again.

One super creepy thing about the stalker is that he didn’t do this only in one hotel; he followed her around and did it in two hotels. He has served a 2 1/2-year sentence, I believe, and is now testifying in this trial against the hotel.

They gave him her room number and then he promptly reserved the room next door.
