Apply!!! And then wait … All of the feedback from people on messageboards who don’t know what they’re talking about for the most part will either a) stress you out and intimidate you, which might come through in the application or in an interview or b) inflate your head to the point that you’re overconfident when you really shouldn’t be, and maybe THAT will come through in the app or interview …

Anyway my point is that no one is doing themselves any good by asking a bunch of strangers their chances of acceptance when nobody but the adcom knows - and I don’t think they’re patrolling the boards looking to answer questions about chances…

Just take the risk, apply, cross your fingers and keep hope alive, people.

And a final note - to those who ask their chances before even applying - I’m 100% sure you won’t get in unless you APPLY … so if you even KINDA think you want to go and you can afford to apply (or can get a fee waiver), just go ahead and do it!!

Just my two cents … Best of luck to you all … :)

CC-induced depression= me! All these high SATs, SATIIs, and people who spent 8 years in Africa studying AIDS… but accidentally cured osteoperosis, cancer, and the oil crisis makes me a bit pessimistic. But all you can do is apply… and I still feel confident; conceit may kill but low-self esteem prevents! Lol, made that one up… I’m lame :-P.

caramel, you’re very right. it inflates my head, and i know that it doesnt mean much, but it still inflates my head. collegeconfidential doesnt do me any good, but its so addictive.

keep in mind this is also all people who really care about getting into college. percentage of CCers getting accepted may be higher than the general public’s as a result. (just a theory)

or maybe the bulk of accepted peoples have so much other stuff going on in their lives that they don’t have time for a message board like this…and those extracurriculars are what’s getting them in…

While asking for chances never helps for any of the top universities (people will just say “looks good, but so does everybody else, so try to stand out”), it can be more useful when people are trying to find less selective colleges. Then others who know more about the student body can tell you where you lie compared to the rest.
