You are allowed to ask what a service dog is trained to do.
Re: An ESA:
So there are registration sites that make themselves sound official like the one below that identifies itself as Official Registry for Service Animals and ESAâs. Itâs free to register. They will put you in contact with BH professionals who can fill out your ariline paper work and YES, They also sell vests.
Scam. Scum.
Maybe I am just lucky, I did travel quite a bit up until few months ago, but I have never had an animal on my flight. If I did, I probably would have asked the animal to not be any where near me. I just started to like dogs because of D2.
Wow, as much as you travel you have never had an animal near you? Does HI restrict pet ingress? Perhaps thatâs why. For the rest of us, itâs turning into Paris pets on every flight.
Maybe @oldfort gets updraded to first class. I rarely see any pets in first class when I get an upgrade.
My avatars did fly business class internationally as the airline warned us that if the third pax in the row objected, they would have been kicked off the flight. Two seats in the row solved the problem⊠adios, now defunct Transaero. Mr. B said it was a very nice flight despite having the freaked out cats under their seats.
I saw a large dog in the first row of first class on a flight from Sweden to the US a few years ago. Pretty surprising considering there must be some sort of quarantine. It was an older couple, no vest on the dog, and they all seemed pretty relaxed about it all, dog included. They had bulkhead seats and the dog was on the floor in front of them.
ETA - since we flew with our little dog once I notice them more if theyâre in carriers.
No quarantine for importation of pet cats or dogs in the US as far as I know. Surprised that it was Row 1 as there is no under the seat stowage.
So, if I buy a vest for my husband and promise to keep him out of the aisle and off of other passengerâs laps, could he fly free with me or at a reduced fare of $125? He wonât fit under the seat in front of me, but heâs very cute, loves little children, sheds little, doesnât bite when petted, and only slobbers a bit when he sleeps. Keeping his head inside the airplane window might be tricky, though.
Iâm with all of you who detest pets on flights and have asked to be reseated. Fortunately, this doesnât happen often. I like the idea of pet-free flights, but I also the the idea of child-free flights, too.
@dragonmom - not sure if your remark was for me. If so, I am not any where near HI. Ever since this thread started I have been looking around every time I boarded a plane. I am probably jinxed now, next time I get on a plane I will be surrounded.
I am very afraid of dogs. I never had a dog as a child and a dog bit my daughter on the playground. She didnât have to take shots but she needed 5 stitches. I have tried to get over this, and I have gotten better. Both my kids have dogs. That being said I would definitely ask to be re-seated if I were next to a person holding a dogâcarrier would be ok.
ESAs , aka âPetsâ have NO PLACE in public transportation. Zero.
Take your pet with you another way. Put it in the cargo hold. Peopleâs right to breathe trumps your right to cuddle your pet any day.
Not all pets can go in the cargo hold. Most airlines wonât carry brachycephalic (snub nosed) dogs in the cargo hold because of the high risk of death to the dogs.

Not to sound harsh but maybe people should stop buying these dogs. Theyâve been overbred to the point that theyâve developed these breathing problems that make them high risk for airplanes. If you need to travel with a pet, seek out another breed that can handle it better.
No one needs to travel with a pet anymore today than they needed to 25 year ago. It is ridiculous.
@TranquilMind, youâre talking about ESAs, correct? You donât apply that to people with service animals, do you? They are not considered pets, but just wanted to clarify.
Delta is requiring documents to bring animals on board effective March 1.

=D> That is a good start!!
Yup!! Saw it on the morning news!! Hallelujah! This article about it is a fun read https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-01-19/delta-gets-tougher-on-flying-emotional-support-service-animals
The evening news covered Deltaâs new policy. Sounds like American plans to follow suit.
