ESA animal mauls another passenger on airline flight

Wasn’t there a scene from an Indiana Jones movie where Sean Connery ran around with an umbrella to get a flock of birds to take off?

Ah, here we go starting around 1:20

Great emotional support animals… that I would not want on the plane next to me:

Especially the goat

Delta’s new policy went into effect yesterday. YAY!!

Costco has a big new sign at its entrance—no pets or other animals other than genuine trained service animals! Yay! I’m hoping others will follow suit.

So, a patient who be only seen twice calls for an appointment. “Oh, would you mind writing me a letter for ESA?”

I explain the new rules, plus my personal ones.

The folks who commented on the article do not agree.

That was about the most uninformed article I’ve ever read. Did the author do any research into the regulations?

The airlines have said that SERVICE animals do not need the 48 hour advanced notice, but really most people buy their tickets more than 48 hours. When has a stroller ever been ‘stored’ in the seat area? Service animals are on the floor by their owners. Four flights in one day that had so many animals in the cabin that this woman was bumped.

I don’t believe any of this. I flew on Saturday - not one animal on the flight. About 50 children (really, Orlando in the spring) but no cabin animals.

That article sounded like a fluff piece that someone threw together and/or repurposed. I also find it difficult to believe some of the junk in the article.

I have not seen strollers in the cabin of any of the flights I’ve flown—ever as far as I can remember. We were never allowed to bring strollers in the cabins when our kids were young either. The strollers are gate checked and put in the hold.

Delta was considering asking people with service dogs to register them 24 hours in advance but the policy never went into effect. They changed it to a recommendation for SA’s (the ESA requirement stands) a week before this article was published. As a frequent flyer I agree the stuff about strollers is bunkum and I’ve never seen an airline restrict the number of SA’s only ESA’s. If anything, this policy should make things easier for people with emotional support animals by no longer lumping them in with emotional support animals.

Local Metro clarifies dog ridership:

https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/can-your-dog-take-a-seat-on-a-king-county-metro-bus-yes-but-here-are-the-rules/

At least this article got the service vs emotional support right. I have never, ever seen anyone pay a dime for their large dog to ride my bus.

Okay folks, I have news to report: this evening I saw my very first dog in a supermarket! It was a white toy dog of some sort and the owner was carrying it. I don’t know how you can grocery shop while carrying a dog, but maybe she was only there for one thing.

Oh @BunsenBurner - maybe Seattle should require dogs to be in a bag like NYC does.

OMG, I laughed so hard at the IKEA bag dog that Mr. B thought I was having a seizure! :))

That one is my favorite! With leg holes!

That one is a classic!!!

I’m surprised the NYC folks are even trying to comply with the law… ours just walk past the bus driver and don’t even pay for the owner’s ticket at times!

I know this is OT, you you just have to see it.

BTW, I forgot to mention that the dog-carrying customer did not have a cart or a basket.

I saw a lady at the airport on Friday with a Great Dane with a service vest on.

This one is sad.http://www.businessinsider.com/united-kills-dog-by-putting-in-overhead-bin-2018-3

We don’t all have good conflict resolution skills. But I’m not sure I would have put my pet in the overhead bin for that flight. Sometimes all your choices are bad - miss your flight/ruin your travel plans, or put your dog’s life at risk.

She had a baby with her and her teenage daughter also. The pet carrier looked perfectly normal, it was not hard sided. Between the two, and possibly three, seats, there would definitely have been enough room for the pet carrier.

And you wonder why people cheat… Airlines could help a lot by having reasonable and affordable pet services.
