Esl

I am writing about my early childhood, and one instance includes me mentioning ESL classes. I’m not sure if the acronym ESL is global enough to be understood as an English as a Second Language class. Should I mention it in parenthesis or in between commas? Are parenthesis even appropriate to use in college essays? lol

I’m just wondering since (English as a Second Language) is pretty long of a phrase and it may take up some unnecessary word space. D:

This is also a bit redundant to ask, but when referring to different races, would saying “white” or “black” be offensive?

I seem to be typing “African American” and “Caucasian” and “Puerto Rican” a lot and it seriously takes up space lol.

(Sorry for the double posting - it won’t let me edit anymore)
