Essay about living in England...

I lived in London, England for a year in middle school. I was planning to write my college essay on this, as I think it would show colleges a unique thing about me, and will let them know that I have this experience that I can bring to their school. I was just wondering if this would help me at all (assuming that it is well written) in the admissions game. Would the fact that I lived their and had that experience that most applicants didn’t help me get in?

lived there*

I doubt that living in London for a year in middle school will be a major deal in admissions. Keep in mind, too, that you can simply state that on your application. Your essay doesn’t have to be about that in order to get the information across.

The topic should be whatever allows for the most personal, detailed/specific, revealing essay. The essay that, ideally, is so you that only you could write it. Perhaps writing about living in London, and how it affected you, is that topic for you, but first be sure to at least consider writing about something of more recent involvement. Whatever the topic, the essay should give a sense of what you are like today, what sort of presence you will bring to the campus, classroom, dormitory.

Thanks for the response. I want to be able to write the best essay possible to help my chances. Where on the application should I include that though, because I do feel like it is something that colleges would be interested in knowing.

Usually there is a space for other activities or other relevant information. If you feel very strongly about telling them about England, you can submit a supplemental essay about it.
