Think carefully about the issue presented in the following excerpt and the assignment below.

Again and again we hear the complaint that we have no heroes anymore. Heroes—people who should be admired for their great courage or noble achievements—are no longer recognized in our modern world. Many people, in fact, believe that heroes existed only in the past. But this belief is wrong. Because more praise is given to the latest technological innovation than to one individual’s heroic achievements, we may not be aware of our heroes, but we do have them.

Assignment:

Is it possible to be a hero in the modern world? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.

With one sweep of the president’s hand, they could pass laws that change the entire world. Although its difficult to become a hero, it is always possible to become one as long as you put your effort into it, like August Wilson who wrote the novel, “Fences,” to change how we view African Americans. Martin Luther King is another captivating example of a tragic hero who changed the world by breaking the subconscious mindset that segregation is morally right.

“Fences” by August Wilson changed how we see African Americans simply by writing a single novel. This novel does not simply show us that its possible to see how we view African Americans but it also proved well that its possible to be a hero in the modern world. Wilson said in the novel that the generation between Troy and Cory is significantly different and because Troys so stubborn, it essentially ruin Cory’s overall life. By telling s the core point of the novel, the people in the modern world treat children with respect ad kindly understand that everything changed, allowing them to try new things like playing games and teach I{AD, which never occurred in the 20th century. It is not necessary to become a hero by physically fighting the evil. We could still be a hero by writing down what we believe is right and change the world that way.

Martin Luther King is another good example that proves that no matter what generation you are in, its always possible to change it into a better world. Before Martin Luther made a speech,k “I have a Dream,” people treated African Americans badly. For example, in Montgomery, Rosa was arrested for sitting in the front seat of the bus. Another example is in World War ll, when African Americans were always forced to march in the front line, which made them in higher risk than those of white Americans. However, when Martin Luther finished his captivating speech, whites started to allow African Americans to be part of the whole. It allowed people to see that its discriminating to segregate blacks from white Americans. The two examples prove that its still possible to be a hero in the modern world.

Although our modern world has changed and improved significantly, martin Luther’s “I have a dream” speech and the novel “Fences” prove that its still possible to change the world. By simply showing the world how you feel and how you think the world should be, you could increase the level of technology, change how we view other people and improve the world financially and economically. As times pass by, there are environmental disasters and a huge gap in poverty and the rich. Who could save the disaster and make America better?
