<p>^This essay I just read apparently got the student into Yale. I don't get what topic he wrote on or what questions he answered. I'd love to write an essay like this, but to what prompt would it be appropriate for?</p>
<p>You should start writing the essay first, for whatever prompt and topic you want. If you’re good enough at being funny to pull this off, funny things will come to you, and you can write them down.</p>
<p>The essay in the page you linked to might not work exactly for any of the new Common App prompts. They used to have a “topic of your choice” option (and some colleges still do), so he probably used that.</p>
