Essay Stanford What Matters to you?

So I’m thinking ill write about how my sleep matters to me and how i am ineffective without sufficient sleep. Do you think that will land me in trouble? Will stanford consider me too un-serious?

I would definitely not write that essay. First, it basically applies to everyone (to a degree). Second, in college, and especially at Stanford, you’re going to have to function on little sleep sometimes.

Hmm thanks for that. Felt it might have been unique but I guess your right.

lolololol bad idea

I think it’s a poor idea. You have your entire set of experiences to reflect on, and this is the one you want to use? Which leads into the real purpose of a question like this. They don’t really care what matters to you. They care about the effort you put into writing the answer. Questions like this are away for a college to plumb the depth of your interest in them.

From the topic you choose and the care you put into writing your essay they can get a sense of whether this is something you did in a spare hour or something you went back to time and again before submitting because you wanted it to be as perfect as you could get it. If they simply asked every applicant “is Stanford special to you” everyone would check the yes box. Here is a chance to prove it with your time.
