I am beginning to contemplate possible essay topics for my applications later this year. I grew up very active in the outdoors and I fish and hunt along with my Dad and Mom. It is something we have have done since I was very young. I passed my hunter safety course when I was seven and hunted every fall. I did my first big game hunt in Africa when I was eleven and I worked for a safari company in Africa when I was fourteen. These activities are important to me and it has allowed me to spend a lot of time with my parents one on one. We have had a some great conversations when we were out in the veldt and the brush or on the water. I am considering using these experiences as part of an essay, but two things concern me. Hunting can be controversial and the fact that I have been to Africa twice might sound like our family has some serious coin and I have lived some sort of jet setting life full of exotic travel. We are a middle class family. My parents have worked hard, saved money, invested wisely and I am an only child which has given us more opportunities to follow our passions.
If a college wants to know me, then I feel like these experiences have significantly shaped me in so many ways.
I welcome your thoughts and comments.
