I had what I thought was a really good common app essay theme about how I failed my permit test twice, but how each failure taught me a different lesson - the first that I should not be so arrogant about things, since I went in with a cocky attitude and barely studied, and the second that some things just don’t come naturally to me and to master them I had to work harder, since I studied for hours before I failed the second time.
(I passed eventually, btw)
But I’ve had four people read it so far and three said that it just speaks badly of me - that I don’t have common sense, that I was too arrogant to study the first time, etc. I thought it was a good topic, but I’m rethinking. Any help?

75% of the people you trusted enough to read it said it’s a bad essay. Now you want validation of that from strangers? :)

On the face of it, it doesn’t sound good. The permit test isn’t a hard test, failing it twice is a big turn off. Trust your friends.
