Essay Topic Conflict

I am having the largest problem ever with one of the prompt topics for University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Essay 1

In an essay of 300 words or less, please discuss your academic interests and/or professional goals.

I’ve tried responding to the topic through different methods but they all come up too informative and impersonal. Secondly, the 300 word limit is killing me.

I know that essays to college applications should be deep, insightful, personal and show a sliver of your personality but I’m finding it difficult. I want to go into business but I can’t seem to write an essay that accurately displays a figment of my personality. And after reading about a past applicant writing their essay on the black pecan tree, I’m not sure how to approach the subject anymore without seeming generic in my response.

I’m willing to let people read my essay response so far but I just feel like my general response overall to the topic doesn’t stand out very well.

I feel like I’m at a loss for this essay. Q_Q
I’m willing to take critique but right now just looking at the word document makes me feel like I’m sinking into a massive black hole of utter failure.

My main question is, how would someone respond to such a prompt in a personal and meaningful way? I mean I could write about how I took talent art for seven years and how it lead to my obsession for Yong Ho Ji’s tire sculptures because of their unique form and composition but I feel like that’s completely irrelevant to the essay topic because it isn’t relevant to the major I’m trying for.

Am I just over analyzing everything?
Help would be nice. And please ignore any questions I’ve asked that are against this forum’s guidelines. I’m still trying to learn all the rules.

What different ways have you been trying? And yeah, I would probably avoid the Yong Ho Ji essay  The essay should also show more than just a sliver into your personality - how does going into business reflect YOU? Are you effcient, organized, a diplomat, innovative? How do you imagine yourself as a businessperson? I’d be glad to read one of your essays (though I am a senior now - not applying to Illinois anything though). If not, just make sure that YOU come through in your essay. It is a personal statement :)

You can PM me. It should not be creative for this essay- tell why you are passionate about business and work in any experiences you have had. This should tell them about your academic passion not the rest.

Sorry I haven’t replied earlier. I was busy trying to catch up in English.

But is it safe to bring traits of my personality into this essay? I mean it specifically asks for academic interests and professional career goals not how my major relates to who I am.
