Can anyone give me some advice on whether or not to send two essays with similar topics? I’ve written two “people” essays and one “interest” essay. The two “people” essays focus on two different aspects of my life and the impact two different people have had on me. I personally find the two “people” essays to be of a slightly higher quality, but would sending both of them be advisable as opposed to submitting one of each?

The short answer:

It doesn’t matter what your essays say, but what they say about you. If the two people essays say the same thing about you (or are written in exactly the same way), do not submit both.

Remember, you only need to give one essay. Many successful applicants only send the common app essay. The other one is only if you feel your application is incomplete without something else added to it.

Well one is about discovering an interest with a friend and the other is about appreciating my family through an activity with my dad.

Since I haven’t read them, I still cannot know what they say about you. If some huge facet of your person was lacking on your application, then it’s a good idea to send a supplementary one. Otherwise, do not feel pressured to send one.
