<p>I am reading a free local magazine that came with today’s mail. One of the feature stories, “Thick Envelope Magic,” is really just a two page advertisement for a college advising company. In their “article,” they mention a number of pitfalls in the college application process. They urge the reader to, “Get ahead of the pack and arm yourself with the facts NOW!” But seriously, are their words/topics to AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! LOL, the verbiage in this ad reads the way Nancy Grace speaks- yelling and all.</p>
<p>No, every word can be used in an infinite number of contexts. You might want to avoid using certain words in specific contexts but you should not completely dismiss a word just because it may sound bad.</p>
<p>If you can make something work then use it to your advantage.</p>
<p>One admissions officer this summer said avoid long essays about how great your family members are, avoid sports essays if possible and make sure your topic is suitable for all readers.</p>
