My son is a math/science kid so these essays are killing him. He’d much rather being solving algebraic equations…

On a couple of the applications one of the choices is to describe an important moment in your life, if you would change it etc. I assume that they literally are not looking for a “moment” as in a minute, but more of an experience??

…how would we know what experiences your son has had
but if he’s a math/science kid, maybe a “moment” when he realized that he was passionate about math/science? like, when he first got to know an influeential teacher or first joined the math team, something like that.
or maybe my ideas are lame

The essays aren’t expected to be excellent. I read my app essays recently from when I applied, and they were pretty bad, but I still got in.
Have a conversation with him about the topic, and maybe have a tape recorder handy. What he says comfortably with you could be the perfect thing for the essays.

Gee, tough crowd…I think she was just asking for some general help, not someone to write the essay for him.

Those are hard questions - the kids are 13 or 14 years old aferall.
You are right, I think they are not looking for a specific minute…but more of an experience. I think my son is going to write about a trip he was able to take to Asia to stay with a friend’s family.

Your essays J73 may look bad to you NOW, but that was 4 years ago, I bet they were pretty good for an 8th grader.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Linda, but trust me, I was a math/science kid then. Now I’ve spread out and actually write ok, but they really weren’t.

My SSAT was my redeeming factor. I think it was the 98th percentile or something.

Moments can span a long time if you think philosophically :P

lol yeah essays aren’t as important as everyone says btw…
lol for college,
i know my friend had a horrible essay and he still got into harvard…
he was definitely stereotypically asian, with no writing skills.
i read his essay and honestly i could’ve written a better one in sixth grade
but he still got in!

skip like two lines, or indent…If your talking about the space between the 2 essays, indicate that the new essay is starting with a couple spaces.
